Try to choose a photograph with a simple background. If you prefer, we can
remove the background altogether at no cost to you. Alternatively, we can
create a half- stitch background for you, which can add perspective to the
design and will also take less time to stitch.
Ensure that the main subject of the photograph is clear, bright and in focus.
The best results will be gained from having a larger subject to convert (at
least 2").
It would be preferable for the subject to fill the photograph. However, if you
would like part of a photograph to fill the finished design size, we can
enlarge it for you at no extra cost.
Small defects can be restored electronically but a photograph in good condition
will produce the highest quality finished design. Your photograph will be
returned to you unharmed but if you prefer not to send the original, you could
get a reprint created by a local developer and send that to us. A good quality
colour photocopy can also be accepted but these do not usually produce results
that meet the highest standards.

We produce designs with a minimum of 30-35 different colour threads but
recommend about 50 different colours for better detail and clarity. A beginner
may perhaps choose the minimum whereas a more experienced stitcher should be
more likely to choose more colours. We are able to blend threads to produce a
more natural finish if this is required.

We offer two types of symbol charts:
-
black
symbols on white
-
black/white
symbols on colour (black symbols on light colours and white symbols on dark
colours)
This is down to personal preference as, in our experience, different stitchers
prefer different chart types.
All our charts our printed on multiple sheets of A4 paper, as this avoids
battling with a large chart whilst stitching.

We design charts using 14hpi, 16hpi, 18hpi or 22hpi Aida. For detailed designs,
such as portraits, we recommend using a minimum of 16hpi Aida as this produces
finer detail.
